DRT5 Maven MIPS Helmet

Introduction

This helmet by Oakley is designed for trail use and is full of features like MIPS technology, which protects the user from multidirectional impact. As this has been my daily commuting helmet of choice as well as what I use for my trail riding, I will review my experience with the helmet over the past year.

Features and impressions

The Oakley DRT5 Maven MIPS comes with all the latest technology you can expect from a premium mountain bike helmet. These features include BOA for a fully adjustable fit, MIPS multidirectional impact protection, ventilation channels, adjustable visor, integrated fit for eyewear, including goggles, and a built-in eyewear holder mechanism. The helmet comes in the sizes small, medium, and large. The helmet comes with a dust cover, which is convenient to use for storage of the helmet. The helmet comes in an array of different color choices, but I chose the matte black model in my typical size M which for this model is 55-59cm, and I found that to be true to size with the BOA system providing that extra lockdown feel. The helmet comes with ample padding and a soft rubber band at the front to catch sweat.

Performance

The performance of the helmet is positive in all aspects. The ventilation works well to keep air flowing through the helmet, which is noticeable. The helmet stays locked in thanks to the BOA system and works well with glasses when riding, with the added benefit of being able to store glasses on the built-in holder. Protection and safety on this helmet meet the requirements for hard trail riding. Just as when I pulled it out of the box, everything works perfectly on the helmet, even after countless hours of use.

Final thoughts and price

On the Oakley website, the helmet is priced at 200€ for my size and color, but there are some discounts to be found in other colors and sizes. Reliable, comfortable, and practical are what come to mind when I think of the Oakley DRT5 Maven MIPS helmet. This helmet is perfect for the trail or the daily commute, and it can do it all.
